About the book
In Guardians of Ga’Hoole Book 2: The Journey by Kathryn Lasky we find that our owl heroes have escaped the terrible orphanage St. Aggie’s and teamed up with owls Twilight and Digger, along with newly found nest-maid Mrs. Pylither.
Soren and Gylfie, the two main characters from the first book, are on their way to the Great Ga’Hoole Tree. After staying with many different owls, the group arrives at the Beaks, a desolate desert, where they fight off a bobcat about to attack a dying owl.
When Soren askes if St Aggie’s owls attacked him, the old owl says “only you wish!” and dies. With this disturbing news, the owls fly on but are blown off course into the ice narrows, a harsh artic land. With the help of some penguins though, the group flys directly into the Ga’Hoole tree. Their dreams have come true!
SPOILERS! BEWARE!
Ending It has been a month since the group landed at the Great Ga’Hoole tree. The owls there have welcomed them and divided them into different Chaws, a guild-like place where owls study different things. Soren is worried that they will no longer be friends, but the master owl Ezylryb sees great potential in Soren.
One day, owlets begin to appear out of nowhere, brainwashed and dazed. Soren is terrified when one of these owlets are Eglantine, and she looks as if to been through a lot. Now Soren and his friends must find the secrets of these brainwashed owlets, and if St. Aggie’s or if something far worse is behind it…
My thoughts
I thought the beginning of this book was too slow and stretched out. This slow part lasted the majority of the book, but once things get going, they get far better.
And I still love owls. I mean, come on.
BONUS The author of this book, Book 2, also wrote a Dear America book -- which is a another series I love. Not so much Sci-Fi, but I love it just the same.
