Worth it? Discover 'Guardians of Ga’hoole Book 1: The Capture'

About the Book

In Guardians of Ga'hoole Book 1: The Capture by Kathryn Lasky we meet Soren, Barn owl living in the forest kingdom of Tyto. He lives there with his mother, his father, his mean older brother Kludd, and his cherished unborn sister Eglantine.

One day, while his parents are away, Kludd pushes Soren out of the nest, leaving him to survive on his own. He is soon kidnaped by owls brining him to St. Aegolieus Academy for Orphaned Owls, a place run by evil owls, looking to brainwash and use the “orphaned” owls to find flecks, sparkling rock-like element driven by evil and greed.

It is there Soren meets Gylfie, a elf owl also kidnapped. The two plan to escape the orphanage, but they first must learn to fly. They must carefully choose their allies, and must watch every move. For the orphanage, though evil enough, is part of something eviler.

My thoughts

Guardians of Ga’Hoole is an excellent series. It has been adapted into a movie, and has three spin-off series, Wolves of the Beyond, Horses of the Dawn, and Bears of the Ice. It has many entries, and an awe-inspiring story. It is a good book for young readers and a great class read aloud. Fellow students in my school have been caught reading this series in class it is so good.

Scroll through the owl slide show above and guess what my face was AFTER reading Guardians of Ga'Hoole. The answer is at the bottom of my previous blog (a video taken at my local book store.)
